Looking for how to build an automatic cactus farm in Minecraft?.

Using no Redstone and minimal blocks its the ideal farm to have near your house to collect cactus whilst your busy doing something else.

Whats The Need For Cactus?

Many servers have some sort of economy, whether it be with an in game currency using plugins such as Essentialsx, Vault or the currency in other Minigames Such as Skyblock, Factions and others. Furthermore, in Bedrock, you might be playing on one of the larger servers or simply be on a server with a command block currency set up.

So to have an automatic way for earning currency is a perfect way of making some dollars whilst busy building at the same time.

How to Build a Cactus Farm Minecraft

Step 1

You will need the following items (per floor)

40 Blocks of your choice for the frame.
16 Sand blocks
16 Cactus
12 Fence
1 Hopper
1 Chest
4 Water buckets

Step 2

Build an 11 by 11 square with your block of choice on top of flat ground, then break of mark the centre block.

Step 3

As the picture above place the sand blocks to fill the square with one block space between each one of them. This will be to support the cactus and make sure they have enough room to grow.

Then place a water bucket in every corner of your farm so it flows toward the middle.

Step 4

Place a fence between the gaps where the cactus will grow too after its first block.

Use the picture below as an guide.

Step 5

Break a tunnel underneath, 3 blocks deep and work your way to the centre of the grid.

Place a chest followed by a hopper ontop of it, leaving one block space for you to be able to jump out into the centre of your farm.

Step 6

Now simply place a cactus on each one of the sand blocks and you’re ready to go, the cactus will collect in your chest whenever the chunks are loaded.

Optional

You can create multiple levels and build as high or low as you require. To do this just repeat the same process directly on top of the original farm with the centres lining up. I recommend leaving a space between the fence and the next floor in case you want to add lighting.

With the latest snap shot we take a good look into new blocks and how they interact with the environment and players. Including some blocks that work with Redstone in different ways than normal gameplay supports.

1.17 Caves And Cliffs New Items

Grimstone

Variant of the Stone or Blackstone, the Grimestone can be used in much the same way.

List of Craftable Items

Brewing stand
Furnace
Grimstone slab/stairs/walls and other building blocks
Stone axe/shovel/sword/hoe/pickaxe

Copper

An amazing brand new ore to find mining, the copper ore can be turned into many other blocks and also weapons and tools. Not only that but the block type actively changes through out its life going from normal copper, to weathered, oxidized and so on. It even includes a great way of preserving your block by waxing it.

List of Craftable Items

Copper ingot
Copper blocks/slabs/stairs and weathered/oxidized/waxed variants
Copper pipe
Copper tools/weapons

Tinted Glass

Similar to the stained glass we are already used too, the Tinted glass will darken the view through the block much like the black stained block.

Spyglass

By far my favourite item so far this incredible item is used to zoom in on a specific players area of view with great details.

This can help you see hostile mobs from vey far. You can also use it to view the spectacular landscape and potentially find yourself another place to settle whilst looking from the glorious new cliffs that will be generated.

Sculk Sensor

Sculk sensors can detect vibrations in an 8 block radius around it. A vibration is anything that causes physical motion, although there are some motions that are undetectable to sensors by sneaking.

They also emit a Redstone pulse when activated depending on how loud the sound is (determined by how close and what sort off action has happened)

Candles

Candles are another light source similar tot he sea pickle.

You can group them together by adding more candles to the same block with a maximum of 4 candles.

When first created they are un lit, how ever to light them simply use a flint and steel.

Dripstone

Stalactites

Stalactites are created when pointed dripstone is placed on the bottom of a block.

Stalagmites

Stalagmites are created when pointed dripstone is placed on the ground.

Big Dripleaf

A great block for minigames this large leaf will carry the weight of a player for a second or two and then fold downward in two stages, dropping the player.

Spore Blossom

Part of the 1.17 Caves And Cliffs Update is this beautiful looking flower that will grow from the top of the caves and drop green particles underneath it.

It currently cant be crafted and only summoned with commands or obtained through the creative menu but will naturally generate in the lush caves biomes.

What Is a Lodestone in Minecraft?

A Lodestone is a block that combined with a compass will fix the position the compass points too. It can be crafted, found and given via commands.

To give via commands ,type / give (playername) lodestone 1 on Java. On Bedrock, type / give (playername) lodestone 1 0

How To Use a Lodestone

To use a Lodestone once you have acquired it, you will need to click on it once placed somewhere with a Compass to activate its ability. It is now set to this Lodestone and no matter the distance, it will still point you back in the same direction. You can change the compass direction to another Lodestone by clicking the other Lodestone with the same compass.

Why Use a Lodestone

This block is used to be able to find your way back to a previously visited location. You can use it to find your nether portal entrance or your house.

You can even use these to design some fun Minigames or Easter eggs hunts.

How to Reset your Compass

To reset your compass, all you need to do is break the original Lodestone block that you linked that particular compass too.

How to Make a Lodestone in Minecraft?

To craft one you will need:

8 Chiseled Stone Bricks
1 Netherite Ingot

Where You Find a Lodestone Naturally

To find a Lodestone naturally in your Minecraft world, you will need to find a Bastion Remnant. You may be able to find one by checking all the chests in the area.

Bastion Remnants are large, castle-like generated structures found in the Nether in all of the biomes except basalt deltas. Piglins spawn in this structure on generation. Furthermore, a Magma Cube spawner generates in treasure rooms. They are guarded by Piglin Brutes.

How to Upload a Minecraft Map (6 Easy Steps)

If you are looking for how to upload an awesome custom map onto your Minecraft server we have a few easy steps to help you build your perfect Minecraft server.

There are many custom maps you can download by players that have uploaded their maps to share with others, from bed war maps, survival spawns and even spacecrafts and airplanes.

Where Can I Find Maps to Download?

How to Upload a Minecraft Map

Step 1

Find a map you want to use, and make sure it is the correct version for your server and stop your server prior to uploading it.

Step 2

Download your map and check to see the contents, if it looks similar to the picture below then move onto step 4. If it doesnt continue to the next step.

Step 3

If it doesnt look like the picture above, then open the file and have a look to find a folder containing all of these files within.

Step 4

Create a new folder and name it what you want you world to be called, dont leave spaces within the name.

For example if I download a map for my spawn I might name it spawnworld

Step 5

Drag and drop all the files that match the picture above into your new folder, this is now the folder you will need to upload so you can go ahead and delete the first zip file your downloaded.

Step 6

Log onto your server files using FileZilla and simply drag your new folder from your pc side over to your servers main files.

Step 7

Now on your multicraft control panel, type the new world name just as you named it in the folder onto your world tab (it is case sensitive)

Once you’ve changed the name to the new map you want to use then tap save underneath and start your server back up.

If you rather carry on using your main world for a spawn and run a multiverse plugin then leave your world name as it is and you can run a /mv import (worldname) whilst in game

How to Stop Minecraft Server Lag

As we are all aware, server lag can always be an issue. It could be from too many entities and farms, too huge Redstone machines or simply a hugely explored worlds making a huge file size.

Using a Different Server Jar

Paper Jar

If your playing on Java then using a Paper server type will greatly increase performance. Paper has been well optimized for larger servers. It also will work with both Bukkit and Spigot plugins as well as with cross platform servers using Geyser and Floodgate.

Tuinity Jar

Another fork of Paper, this is also optimized for larger servers like MMO’s. This jar is great for lots of players, minigames and worlds.

Using Plugins to Remove Lag

If you run a Java, Nukkitx or MCPE server you can also find helpful plugins that will help reduce your server lag. Some will simply clear floating items where as some others will also check that no player is able to build anything that could bring your tps down (lag machines).

Clear Floating Items For Bedrock

Clearing lag on bedrock can be hard but you can achieve some simple ways such as clearing floating items from around the server.
For this you will need to give yourself a command block (give [player name] command_block) and also OP yourself.
First you will need to create a tickingarea in your world to put the command block in. This will make it effective through out the server.
To do this stand where you want to do it and type /tickingarea add circle ~ ~ ~ 4 spawn

This will create a ticking area where you are stood (~ ~ ~), in the shape of a circle (circle), with a distance of 4 chunks (4), called spawn (spawn)
Now using the command block you gave yourself with the command (you can also do the command through your console on multicraft). Place it within the area you just added to the tickingarea.

Now switch the type to repeat, then unconditional, and always active. After that change the delay in ticks to 12000. This will be executed every ten minutes, its 1200 ticks per minute so you can change this accordingly.

Finally type in this command to the command section.
/kill @e [type=item]

Now every 10 minutes the command block will clear any floating items left by players on the server. Reducing lag but not having so many animated entities floating above the ground.

Changing Your View Distance

You can reduce lag huge amounts by reducing the viewing distance on your server. If you have 10 players online and all have a view distance of 12 or more, thats going to be a huge amount of entities, blocks and animations loaded all at once. You can reduce this easily by turning it down through the server settings. We suggest reducing it down to 6 or 7 for the best performance.

Step 1

Head to your multicraft control panel and stop your server. The go to Files, Config Files and then Server Settings.

Step 2

Scroll down to the View Distance option and type in a lesser amount that was is currently displayed if you want to reduce it.

Step 3

Save the changes, go back to the main page and restart your server.

Server Ping

Take a look at your ping when joining. If you find its looking quite high and isnt a green colour (good ping). If it is orange or red in colour it might be worth changing your physical location for the server. For example if your in America and have a server in Europe it will lag more due to the distance. If you find this to be the case just create a ticket and ask our support team to move your server location.

Removing Unnecessary Plugins or Mods

If you have lots of mods and some are going un used, then get rid of them. They will all cause more lag to your server by executing commands and checks that are unnecessary if they arent needed. Try not to use more than 10 plugins per 1gb of RAM.

The same applies for mods. All add ons to servers will take some processing space to perform their intended action. So if you have 5 or 6 mods that dont even get used. Consider changing or decreasing your modpack size.

Get More Server Space

Sometimes, plugins and configuration simply wont work if your world size and player size has grown. In this case you will need to upgrade your server package to get more ram and run your game smoother.

Why You Need To Protect You Server

Players which gain access to your server may want to destroy your builds and generally try to stop peoples enjoyment of the server it self. For this they may use many tricks, a lot of these can be stopped with a good Anti-Cheat but unfortunately this wont always stop them using tnt or creepers to blow up structures.

If you want to run a successful community on Minecraft, then you want your players to feel safe knowing they can log off and find their house intact when they log in again.

How to Stop Tnt and Creeper Explosions

Java Edition

For Java we will be using a plugin called Grief Prevention, this will automatically stop any tnt or creeper explosion. Plus it has a load more amazing features that will keep your players houses safe and also items or mobs held inside their property. To download the plugin click the link here.

Step 1

Stop your server before installing any plugin, then download the grief prevention plugin, you can use the link above.

Step 2

Once installed you can restart your server, you are now safe from creeper explosions, tnt and much more.

Bedrock Edition

For Bedrock we will be utilising two in game commands to stop tnt and creeper explosions.

You will need cheats enabled to be able to access the commands.

/gamerule mobgriefing false
/gamerule tntexplodes false

The mob griefing will stop the mobs griefing the land, for example creepers exploding blocks or withers destroying blocks.

And the tntexplodes command, when set to false will not let tnt explode to cause damage to blocks.

How to Change Gamemode in Minecraft

Own a server and want to know How to Change Gamemode in Minecraft? There are a few ways your able to do this either in game or through your server console.

The fastest way is in game as you can just type a command and it changed over straight away. This will require you to have the relevant permissions on your server to be able to carry this out.

If you are also new to the server you will need to use the console to give yourself operator status so we have included both methods in the tutorial.

What is OP?

It’s operator permission given to players so that they can access commands or other features. On Bedrock edition the player with operator permission will be able to use cheats and commands, you can adjust permissions for op’s on your server settings. On Java, its a similar case but you can alter their abilities using group or permission plugins and setting groups different commands they can use. To OP a player, in the console type op (gamer tag) e.g. op jdog123 and press enter. If you are already an OP on the server you can run the command /op (gamer tag) or /deop if you need to take away that permission.

What Gamemode’ s are Available?

Adventure Mode

In this mode, you are unable to build or break blocks and can only interact with items such as buttons, levers and mobs (e.g. killing a mob or trading with villagers)

This mode is perfect for adventure maps where the focus is more on completing a course or a level rather than building or survival. You are able to die from fall damage or any other type of damage in this mode.

On Java edition, you can break blocks providing you have world edit installed.

Survival Mode

In this mode, you can break and build blocks. You can also interact with all of the environment around you including friendly or unfriendly mobs.

Your crafting menu is accessible but only by gathering resources to create these items with. You can find items to use for crafting all around the world.

This mode is perfect for survival games and communities that like to engage with others and share experiences on one map together. You are able to die from fall damage or any other type of damage in this mode.

Creative Mode

In this mode, you have all crafted items and other items you cant craft available in your crafting menu, from mob spawning eggs to totems of undying. You also now have access to flying and don’t receive any damage from falls, mobs, lava or anything else. Mods will now ignore you as if you arent even there.

This game mode is perfect for building as you can reach great heights and have the use of all of the blocks without having to find the materials to craft them first.

Spectator Mode

In this mode, you are almost like a ghost in terms of not interacting with the world at all. You cant press any buttons or levers, neither can you trade with villagers or hurt other players.

Your player will go invisible and you also able to pass through walls or any other structures.

This game mode is used mostly by administrators to check on other players but also for minigames in the periods your waiting to respawn again.

This game mode only works in Java Edition and some MCPE versions.

How to Change Gamemode in Minecraft

How to Change Gamemode in Minecraft Through Your Console

Step 1

On your multicraft control panel select the console button on the left.

Step 2

Type gamemode (the required gamemode) (user name) e.g. gamemode creative Jdog123

To target players, in other ways, you can use the @a @e @r @p or @s feature

@a – everyone
@e – entities
@r – random player
@s – self

For example, you can type gamemode survival @a to affect everyone on the server

How to Change Gamemode in Minecraft In game

For Bedrock make sure cheats are enabled to do this in game. For Java, you will need to be OP or have the relevant permissions given to you.

Step 1

Bring up your chat bar and press forward slash (/)

Step 2

Type in the following command followed by the gamemode you want to implement and then who or what you would like it to effect.

/gamemode (the mode) (what to effect)

For example we will give gamemode creative to the nearest player.

/gamemode creative @p

Or if you want it to be for your friend called hello bob with a space in his gamer tag, simply type the command like this.

/gamemode creative “hello bob”

Use the quotation marks on either side of a gamer tag with spaces within the name.

How to Stop /list Spam in Console

A quick fix is just to add a few more lines of code to stop this happening. We have a video tutorial and a easy step by step written tutorial further down.

It can always be worrying when writing any code, especially if you have never had any experience doing it. To make it easier we have left picture examples displayed underneath.

What is the list command and what does it do?

Multicraft uses the /list command to check if your server is online, as well as the number of players on it. You can also use plugins such as Console Spam Fix to prevent this from showing up in your console and spamming your logs.

Step 1

Log into your multicraft control panel, then open the Files folder, select FTP file access and then login using your password.

Step 2

On the commands.yml file press edit on the right hand side to edit the code.

Step 3

After – version $1- press Enter to go down to the next line, there press the spacebar twice and type. list:

Written like this. Space, space, list, colon

Next press Enter again and type – []

So written down thats. Space, space, hyphen, space, two closed parenthesis

Step 4

Now go ahead and restart your server, its all done.

Features to be Aware of

If you have never tried hardcore mode on Minecraft before then its best to know what you are getting into before you set your whole server up to accommodate for this mode.

One Life

You get one life, that’s it! So don’t be too hasty about running into them mobs with little but a wooden sword. Its a game of strategy as one wrong move could lead to all your hard work lost, as there is no way to spawn back into that same world. Upon death, you can simply go into spectate mode, but not back into survival again.

Hunger

Your hunger goes does much faster in hunger mode and you need to make sure to always keep a good amount of food supply ready just in case. From regular fishing trips to building your own farm, try anything you can to keep that hunger bar from falling.

Hearts

In Hardcore mode, the hearts representing the player’s health look different, as they include dark red marks inside the icon.

Difficulty

The difficulty level in hardcore mode is always set to hard. Not only that but the options for cheats or bonus chests have been taken out completely for hardcore players. This is the hardest difficulty in Minecraft and for more experienced players or anyone brave enough to risk losing months of builds.

How to Enable Hardcore Mode on your Server

Step 1

From your Multicraft control panel head to your Files folder, click on this option and then config files underneath.

Step 2

Click on the Config files to head to your server settings.

Step 3

Select server settings and then scroll down to hardcore mode, here you can choose to enable or disable it.

Once enabled or disabled simply tap Save at the bottom and head back to restart your Minecraft server.
