With the latest snap shot we take a good look into new blocks and how they interact with the environment and players. Including some blocks that work with Redstone in different ways than normal gameplay supports.
From Sculk Sensors that detect sound’s in varied amounts, to my absolute favourite item. The Spyglass! We will explain more about both these further down this article.

1.17 Caves And Cliffs New Items
Grimstone
Variant of the Stone or Blackstone, the Grimestone can be used in much the same way.
List of Craftable Items
- Brewing stand
- Furnace
- Grimstone slab/stairs/walls and other building blocks
- Stone axe/shovel/sword/hoe/pickaxe
Copper
An amazing brand new ore to find mining, the copper ore can be turned into many other blocks and also weapons and tools. Not only that but the block type actively changes through out its life going from normal copper, to weathered, oxidized and so on. It even includes a great way of preserving your block by waxing it.
List of Craftable Items
- Copper ingot
- Copper blocks/slabs/stairs and weathered/oxidized/waxed variants
- Copper pipe
- Copper tools/weapons
Tinted Glass
Similar to the stained glass we are already used too, the Tinted glass will darken the view through the block much like the black stained block.
Spyglass
By far my favourite item so far this incredible item is used to zoom in on a specific players area of view with great details.
This can help you see hostile mobs from vey far. You can also use it to view the spectacular landscape and potentially find yourself another place to settle whilst looking from the glorious new cliffs that will be generated.
Sculk Sensor
Sculk sensors can detect vibrations in an 8 block radius around it. A vibration is anything that causes physical motion, although there are some motions that are undetectable to sensors by sneaking.
They also emit a Redstone pulse when activated depending on how loud the sound is (determined by how close and what sort off action has happened)
Candles
Candles are another light source similar tot he sea pickle.
You can group them together by adding more candles to the same block with a maximum of 4 candles.
When first created they are un lit, how ever to light them simply use a flint and steel.
Dripstone
Stalactites
Stalactites are created when pointed dripstone is placed on the bottom of a block.
Stalagmites
Stalagmites are created when pointed dripstone is placed on the ground.
Big Dripleaf
A great block for minigames this large leaf will carry the weight of a player for a second or two and then fold downward in two stages, dropping the player.
Spore Blossom
Part of the 1.17 Caves And Cliffs Update is this beautiful looking flower that will grow from the top of the caves and drop green particles underneath it.
It currently cant be crafted and only summoned with commands or obtained through the creative menu but will naturally generate in the lush caves biomes.
